Learn the best tooth whitening tips

A clear dazzling smile is the one factor that attracts people and a beautiful smile is one of the reasons people visit dentists. The enamel of the teeth is white but over the years with the consumption of substances that stain like tea, coffee, wine, soda and other carbonated drinks teeth can start to yellow and lose their original colour. This is when a lot of people visit the dentists to restore their former dazzling smiles.

Whitening the teeth is a common procedure that is adopted by dentists all over the world as a cosmetic procedure. There are two ways in which this can be done – one with the professional tooth whitening procedure offered by dentists and the other with home treatments. The first is of course preferable. The enamel of the teeth is naturally an off white colour though its thickness and texture varies according to genetics. Every day a thin layer known as a pellicle forms on the teeth and collects stains. As people age also the teeth become more yellow. This procedure only brightens the surface of the teeth and cannot correct darkening caused by trauma etc. The dentist first cleans the teeth and applies a substance on the gums that is protective in function. The whitening gel is then applied to the teeth. This bleaches the teeth. The gel covered teeth are exposed to laser or light that activates the bleaching action further. This procedure may have to be repeated for better results.

After whitening, teeth may become sensitive so it is important to use a sensitive toothpaste for some time. There are many do at home procedures for whitening the teeth but the important thing to remember is the substances are usually corrosive and can affect the teeth in a detrimental manner. There are many tooth whitening tips that can be followed for whiter teeth. The first thing to do is to reduce the intake of food that stain the teeth like colas, tea and coffee. The next is in case dark coloured drinks have to be consumed to always do so with the help of a straw. Whitening toothpastes and whitening strips are also effective. Rinsing the mouth out after eating and drinking is also good. A home mixture of hydrogen peroxide and baking soda can also be applied to the teeth to whiten them at home.

Almost all the dentists in India offer the services of whitening. With a few sittings your beautiful smile can be restored to you with no trouble at all. First a careful analysis of the extent of stains is done and then the teeth are whitened. Deep stains may actually take a few more sittings but the result is always worth it. However once the teeth are whitened it is important to refrain from doing things that may stain the teeth again.
